A register of notable trees within the Parish Boundary of Fovant in Wiltshire.

Fovant is situated within the Cranborne Chase and West Wiltshire Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a nationally protected landscape. As Parish Tree Warden, it seems like a good idea to make a register of notable trees within the parish boundary and close by in order to protect their future. By collecting, this information, I hope to raise awareness, encourage new experiences and promote increased enjoyment of the wonderful trees around us.

A tree could be on the register for all sorts of reasons such as because:

  • it is a wonderful looking tree and people admire it every time they see it
  • it is valuable as a habitat for nesting and feeding birds, bats and invertebrates, also epiphytes such as lichens and mosses
  • it is a valuable part of the landscape adding to the character of the area
  • it provides much needed shade to grazing animals and the public
  • it has memories or associations or is a link with the past
  • it is an ancient native tree or potentially a future veteran
  • it could be an imported planted tree of interest
