Beech (Fagus sylvatica)

Girth 3.55m - measured on 15 April 2010.
Situated east of St George's Church, Fovant.

In the autumn of 2014 a large branch came down and in January 2015 the Parochial Church Council put in a planning application to remove a further dangerous branch and if necessary to remove the whole tree. The church is also required to apply for a faculty before taking down the tree. It is probably about 200 years old.

There are some very fine beech trees along Green Drove although several have been felled recently. The one below has evidence of ganoderma fungus at the base.
